Steven Tyler, American Idol Judges, Inspire Clothing Lines

“American Idol” judge Steven Tyler doesn’t just inspire “Idol” wannabes-apparently he inspires fashion designers as well!

according to Rolling Stone, Tyler’s bohemian style is the inspiration for a new “musical clothing line” called Andrew Charles.

the designer? none other than Andy Hilfiger (yes, he has a brother named Tommy). Hilfiger said the line, which will launch next month at Macy’s department stores, will be “very ’70s, very gypsy, very boho.” And very Steven Tyler.

the line will feature a denim-heavy mix of woven pieces, knits and outerwear, while a spinoff collection, Rock Scarf, will feature a variety of rocker-inspired scarves. (Although can anyone in the real world really rock a scarf the way Steven Tyler does?)

But the Aerosmith front man, who will be the official face for the new Andrew Charles line, isn’t the first “American Idol” alum to offer fashion inspiration to the masses.

First up, “Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez is about to join the ranks of Daisy Fuentes and Lauren Conrad with her new clothing line set to debut this fall at Kohl’s. O Magazine recently offered a sneak peek at the glam-casual line which features faux-fur jackets, wrap dresses, sequin tops and sparkly jewelry pieces. Best of all? just about every piece in J-Lo’s Kohl’s line is priced at under $100.

While J-Lo’s line is set to launch in the near future, back in 2005, “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest unveiled his own fashion line of t-shirts, tanks, and distressed polos under the JEM Sportswear label, the R Line. At the time, the always-stylish Seacrest gave a piece of fashion advice to his fans: “The combination of a blazer over any T-shirt with a pair of jeans is foolproof.” And he should know!

Also back in the day, former “Idol” judge and forever our girl, Paula Abdul, debuted her clothing line, Skirtz, in 2004. the colorful, dance-inspired clothing line for kids was sold at Walmart– and most pieces sold for under $10 each.

And while some of “American Idol” lifer Randy Jackson’s funky fashion selections are worthy of a clothing line, for now he’s sticking to above- the-neck style. But Jackson’s line of eyewear is indeed an eye-opener. his RJ Dawg line of eye glasses for men features “on trend shapes and colors.”

And finally, one “American Idol” alum that we’d love to see launch a clothing line? Former judge Simon Cowell. because no one can rock a plain white t-shirt like he does. Imagine the possibilities!
